Carol Marlene (Gemmell) Olson

Carol Olson, 81, longtime Brule resident, died Friday, August 5, 2016, in the Ogallala Community Hospital. 

Carol Marlene (Gemmell) Olson was born August 1, 1935 in Ogallala, the daughter of Faye H. and Iva (Ficke) Gemmell. She was baptized in the Methodist church. She attended Ogallala High School.

On October 16, 1954 Carol was united in marriage to Carleton D. Olson in Ogallala. The couple lived on a farm west of Brule near Megeath until 1964 when they moved into the village of Brule. Carol enjoyed ceramics and operated Carol's Ceramic Shop for several years.

She attended the Congregational Church in Brule and was a longtime member of the Brule Cemetery Board. Her hobbies included having coffee with friends, quilting, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Carleton, a son Lannie, two brothers Faye and Jack, and a daughter-in-law Shelley Olson.

Survivors include her children: Lonnie (Val) Olson and Lowell Olson, all of Brule; Layne Olson and (special friend Cathy Galaviz) of Ogallala; Linda Thompson of LasVegas, NV; a sister Phyllis Brockmoller of Kearney;

five grandsons:  Carl (Ashley) Olson and Jermey Olson (special friend Crystal Lehl), all of Brule;  Brett (Bobbi) Olson of Columbus; Spencer (Morgan) Olson of Broken Bow; Jordan Thompson of Loveland, CO;

four granddaughters: Anna (Jason) Fryda of Kearney; Michele (Ryan) Wolf of Omaha; Jessica (Kevin) Moore of Loveland, CO; Jen Thompson of Austin, TX

And Ten Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, August 10, at 10 a.m. in United Church of Christ, Congregational of Brule with Rev. Lisa Hadler officiating. The Service will be live streamed from our website for those unable to attend. Interment is in the Brule Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the United Church of Christ, Congregational of Brule.
