Myrna Lorrene VerHagen

Myrna Lorrene VerHagen, 77, went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2015. 

Myrna was born March 4, 1938 in rural Greeley County, Nebr., the daughter of Ollie and Irma (Peterson) Thompson. As a young child Myrna moved with her family to Ogallala.

She attended Ogallala Public School, graduating from high school in 1957. After graduation she worked at the Dollar Cafe besides being a caregiver to her mother.

On June 23, 1963 Myrna was united in marriage to Richard VerHagen. The couple resided at the Haythorn Ranch near Arthur where Myrna was employed as a cook.

In 1964 the couple moved to a ranch north of Sutherland and then settled in Ogallala in 1965. Myrna enjoyed being a homemaker and caregiver to her mother who suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years. Later she was employed at TRW for a short time.

She enjoyed fabric painting, embroidery, doing puzzle books and adult coloring books, and playing Yahtzee. Myrna hosted groups in her home for Bible studies for about fifteen years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors include her husband Richard, her son Rick VerHagen, and her daughter Becky Bishop, all of Ogallala; and her son Rodney (Crystal) VerHagen of Grand Island. One brother James S. (Linda) Thompson of North Platte, four grandsons: Quintin, Matthew,Tanner, and Thomas; and five great-grandchildren.

The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be Monday, October 5, at 10 a.m. in the Ogallala First Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Tschetter officiating. The Service will be streamed live from drauckerfuneralhome.com, for those unable to attend. Inurnment will follow in the Ogallala Cemetery.  A memorial has been established in her memory.
