Daniel Lee Austin, 66, of Ogallala, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Daniel was born April 13, 1951 in Denver, Colo., the son of Robert L. and Joyce (Aumiller) Austin. He attended Paxton schools, as well as, St. Charles School in Stratton, Colo. and Julesburg Public School. He graduated from Paxton High School in 1969.

He moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and worked various jobs. In 1980 Daniel relocated to western Nebraska and was employed at the Gerald Gentleman Plant in Sutherland.

Daniel worked for Chief Transfer for two years before moving to Denver in 1986 where he worked various jobs. He was an ironworker journeyman for five years, working for Austin Power. In 1991 he returned to Ogallala to be close to family. He was employed by Mick Moul Construction from 1992 to 1997 and then retired.

He was a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975. Daniel was a member of the Catholic Church. His hobbies included collecting coins and Harley Davidson memorabilia.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors include his son Brian D. (Michele) Austin of Virginia Beach, VA; his mother Joyce P. Austin of Ogallala; one sister Pamela J. (Clark) Diedrich of Brule; and four grandchildren.

The family chose cremation. The Memorial Service will be Monday, May 8, at 2 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bryan Ernest of St. Lukes Catholic Church officiating. Online condolences may be sent by signing the Guest Book. The Service will be live streamed for those unable to attend. Inurnment will follow in the Ogallala Cemetery.
