Darlan Rezac Obituary

Darlan "Doc" Rezac, DVM, 85, of Ogallala, passed away on Wednesday June 20, 2018 in Ogallala at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Doc was born on December 31, 1932 in Ogallala to Joe and Anna (Juranek) Rezac. He grew up in the Perkins County area and graduated from Perkins County High School in 1950. \

Doc attended Colorado State University and received a Bachelors degree of Biological Science. In 1956 he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He participated in the Army Reserves while attending Colorado State University.

Darlan was married in 1964 to Connie Kerr and to that union, John and James were born. On Dec 15, 1990, Doc was united in marriage to Jeanne Brass. 
In 1956, he began his veterinarian career in Ogallala until 1990. Doc began a new career with Grand Laboratories which was purchased by Novartis, he was able to travel being a Territory Manager until 2003. 

Doc belonged to numerous organizations including American Veterinary Medical Association, Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, Academy of Veterinary Consultants, Society for Theronology, Knights of Columbus, Elks 1760, West Winds Country Club, Bayside Golf Course, Ogallala Zoning Board of Adjustment and BoyScouts. Doc served as President of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association and served on several committees for over 47 years. He received the President award NVMA Veterinarian of the Year.

Over the years Doc was involved in several other Business ventures including; partnership at the Holiday Inn and Front Street. In 2004 Doc and his wife Jeanne became owners and operators of Front Street until 2016.

Doc's favorite pastime was golfing with his friends. He enjoyed his Cow Calf and Bred Heifer operation from 1956 to 2003. Doc also enjoyed grilling, cooking, telling stories, hunting and fishing. Doc will forever be remembered by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Vernon, and his sister in law Jackie.

Survivors include his wife Jeanne, His children John (Stephanie) Rezac of Navarre, Fl, Jim (Gwen) Rezac of Ogallala, his step children Brad (Melisa) Brass of Alliance, Deb (Jeff) Wirth, and Stacy (Jeff) Malooley all of Kearney, his sister Annette Ruddy of Amarillo TX, 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, many nephews, extended family and many dear friends. 

The family has chosen cremation. The wake and Rosary will be Monday June 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Luke's Catholic Church followed by Mass of the Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.. Rev Bryan Ernest will be the celebrant.  Inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.  A memorial is established to the St Luke's Catholic School. Condolences my be sent by signing the Guest Book.  The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend.
