Harold "Wayne" Liggett, age 91, of Ogallala, passed away, Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Wayne was born May 4, 1927 in Hume, MO to Ely and Edith Liggett.
He received his early education in Brule and Big Springs, graduating from Big Springs High School in 1944. Wayne then entered the Merchant Marines and served in the Pacific for 3 years.
On September 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Boss. The couple resided in Ogallala and raised their family of 3 daughters and 1 son.
Wayne enlisted in the Army on September 16, 1950, and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. He served in World War II and in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on August 31, 1951 at Camp Carson, Colorado.
Wayne and Betty, along with Wayne's brother Homer founded the Liggett Bros. Service. In 1967 they started the Wayne Liggett Trucking Co., which later became known as Ogallala Produce. Wayne had a 55 year career of truck driving, retiring in 2006. He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brother.
Wayne is survived by 1 son, Robert Liggett; 3 daughters, Edith Liggett, Linda (Todd) Hudson, Catherine Liggett; 2 grandchildren, Tonya (Edward) Bassett, Charlotte & Leila Hudson; 5 great-grandsons, and special friend Marilyn Hampton, all of Ogallala.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 11th from 1:00 pm-6:00 pm at the Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, February 12, at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Brule Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Keith County Senior Center in his memory
