Lois M. (Powell) Dickenson

Lois Mae Dickenson, 90, of Paxton, died January 9, 2017, in Great Plains Health in North Platte after an extended illness.

Lois was born near Paxton, Nebraska on March 10, 1926, the daughter of Myrll and Helen (Osborn) Powell. As a child, she moved with her parents into Paxton. She grew up there and graduated from Paxton High School in 1944.

After graduation, she attended business school in Denver, Colorado. Lois was employed by "Ma Bell" in Denver.

On February 15, 1947 Lois married Robert "Bob" Dickenson. The newlyweds moved to Paxton where Lois became a homemaker and mother to three children.  When the children were older she worked at TRW in Ogallala and at the Keith County courthouse.

Lois, along with her husband, was a member of Paxton United Methodist Church. She was an avid football, basketball and track spectator. Lois cheered on her three sons, attending most games or events. She was a longtime devout fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching their games on television. She especially enjoyed reading and in later years became an advocate for a new library in Paxton. She served on the Library Board and worked as a volunteer for many years.

The Paxton community was always near and dear to Lois. She was especially fond of her two special neighbors Lilly and Chuck Fisher and their family and Fred Lierley.  Lois so enjoyed spending time at the garden center Lilly opened. She could always count on Fred if she needed something.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Bob, son Donnie, and her sister Lucille Freeman.

Survivors include two sons: Jim (wife Melba) and Ward; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Gwen Dickenson; six grandchildren: Vicki, Jamie, Katie, Selena, Emily, & Annie; two great-grandchildren: Cashton and Asher; niece Marcy and nephews David and Arnold.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Friday, January 13, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the Paxton United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Baldwin officiating and assisted by Pastor Sam Fisher of the First United Methodist Church of Indianola, Iowa.  Interment is in the Paxton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Paxton Public Library or to the donor's choice.
