Mary Asenible (Huntley) Hull Peterson, age 92, of Paynesville, Minnesota, formerly of Brule, passed away, Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Karonis Manor in Paynesville, following an extended illness.

Mary was born September 23, 1927 to George and Sylvia (Johnston) Huntley in Silverton, OR. The family moved to Custer County, Nebraska where Mary enjoyed an early childhood. The family moved to Brule when Mary was a freshman and she graduated from Brule High School. While still in school, Mary began working as bookkeeper for Larson Oil where she continued her employment for 35 years.

On November 25, 1951, Mary and Lynn Hull, a local farmer, were married in the Brule Congregational Church where the couple were active in the congregation and Mary sang in the choir. They resided in Brule in the home they planned and was built for them soon after their marriage. Although they had no children of their own, they hosted nieces and nephews frequently throughout their marriage. Lynn died October10, 1977 from emphysema. Mary continued living in their home in Brule.

Walter and Julie Peterson, a couple that headed a harvest crew that spent several weeks in Brule each summer, became good friends of Mary and Lynn, and over the years the couple participated in many activities together. Julie died and after a few years Walter asked Mary to marry him. On August 23, 1980 the couple were married and Mary moved with Walter to his farm in Minnesota whte the couple and his two daughters lived until Walter's fatal heart attack on March 18, 1987. Mary had become quite active in the community, and joined the Nordland Lutheran Church and remained on the farm after the girls married.

When Mary suffered a foot injury, she moved into assisted living facilities in Paynesville, where she spent several years. In January, 2016 she entered Karonis Manor after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Mary enjoyed embroidery and other related needle work, quilting. Trying new recipes, cooking and having guests for meals, were her favorite activities. She was always ready to join others in both work and play. Traveling and sight seeing were hobbies that she enjoyed, especially with Lynn and Walter. She spent many hours as a volunteer at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; Lynn and Walter; her parents, 2 sisters; Hazel Huntley and Irene Kummer; 2 brother-in-laws; Dan Kummer and Dick Leonard; and 2 nieces; Faye Lavonne Benckeser and Sharon Mae (Ken) Woolery.

Mary is survived by 1 sister; Betty Jo (Dick) Leonard, of Elsie, NE; 1 brother; Bill Huntley, of Ogallala; Walter's 2 daughters; Jeanne (Larry) Ent, of College Station, TX; Shirley (Bob) Fletcher, of Seaside, OR; Nieces; Jeanne (Gary) Bergston, of Holdrege, NE; Raelene (Gary) Milner, of Waterloo, LA; Patty Harms, of Ogallala; Susie Leonard, of Phoenix, AZ; nephews; Mike (Carol) Leonard, of Alliance, NE; Mark (Sherie) Leonard, of Bayard, NE; Rick (Denise) Leonard, of Lincoln, NE; and Bill Leonard, of Phoenix, AZ; And many grand nieces and grand nephews, as well as children and grandchildren of the step-daughters.

Memorial Services were held Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Nordland Lutheran Church in Paynesville.

A Celebration of Life and graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2019 in the Brule Cemetery in Brule, NE.
