Velda N. Baack (Hodgson), age 65, of Lemoyne, Nebraska passed away on March 10, 2019 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Nebraska after a courageous, fifteen-year, battle with cancer.
Velda was born June 24, 1953 in La Junta, Colorado to Leslie and Clara Hodgson (Petty).
Velda graduated from Karval High School, Karval, Colorado in 1971.
She attended college at the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colorado and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Velda moved to North Platte, Nebraska in 1975. She taught Special Education at North Platte Public Schools until 1982 when she began working for ESU-16. Velda greatly enjoyed her work at the ESU where she helped implement special education programs in local schools for thirty-four years, before her retirement in 2016.
Velda Married Rick Baack in 1982, and the couple moved north of Lake McConaughy where they built a home together and raised two children, Amanda and Justin. Velda loved traveling, going to concerts, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandson, Dennis.
Velda was preceded in death by her father and mother.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-six years, Rick Baack, of Lemoyne; daughter Amanda Baack, of Ogallala; son Justin Baack, of Fargo, North Dakota; grandson Dennis Smykowski, of Fargo, North Dakota; three siblings, Ray Hodgson, Anna Mae Ardrey, and Arleta Wallden; sister-in-law Jody (Bill) Baack-Haack; five nieces; and one nephew.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Ogallala with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating.
Interment of the Cremains will be held at a later date in Lemoyne Cemetery.
