Alice F. Berry

Alice F. Berry, age 93, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away, Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.

Alice was born on December 11, 1926 to John and Mary (Daubendick) Steinke on a farm in Perkins County. She grew up and attended school in Perkins County. 

In 1944 Alice attended Hastings Beauty School, then after getting her cosmetology license, she went to work in Curtis, Nebraska. She went to work for Hazel Kilgore's Beauty Shop in January 1946. 

On August 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert VandeVoorde at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. In April 1952 she bought Alice Hackbarth's beauty shop and operated it as Alice's Beauty Shop and Alice's Powder Puff until 1972, when she sold the shop to Judy Schultz. Robert passed away in October 1969. 

Alice married John K. Berry in Ogallala in December of 1970. He passed away in December of 1999. Alice and John lived between Ogallala and the ranch at Lemoyne until his health began to fail. She made her home in Ogallala after that. 

Alice was active in Ogallala Hairdresser's when she had her shop. She has been a member of St. Luke's Alter Society, being active on the funeral committee. She was also a member of the Nebraska Cattle Women, RSVP, and is a past member of the Nebraska Quarter Horse Association. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Kenfield Gallery.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; and her parents. 

Alice is survived by two nephews; Kevin (Hilary) Steinke, of Chicago, IL; Scott (Lia) Steinke, of Washington D.C.; two stepsons; Charles (Alberta) Berry; Gerald (Kathie) Berry, all of Lemoyne; one sister-in-law, Arlene Steinke, of Hickory Hills, IL; three step-grandchildren; Calvin Berry, of Lemoyne; Tammy (John) Rothwell, of Hyannis, NE; Barbara Torres, of Ogallala; nine step-grandchildren; and numerous friends and neighbors she loved so much.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala.

A rosary will be recited, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. 

A Mass of The Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at  the St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will follow at the Ogallala Cemetery. 
 
A memorial has been established in her name.
