Gordon LaRue Shirey age 63, of Ogallala, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Gordon was born October 9, 1958 to Gordon and Carol (Carpenter) Shirey.He attended Kaiserslautern High School in Germany where his dad was stationed with the Air Force. This is where he met his future wife.
Gordon joined the Coast Guard in 1977. A couple years later in 1979 he married Cynthia Petersen in Papillion Nebraska. They spent many years living on different military bases across the country, where they welcomed three children, Lisa, Heather & Thomas. Gordon retired from the Coast Guard in 1997 and moved the family to Ogallala where he helped raise his three children and build the best life for his wife and kids.
Gordon loved to camp, be outside and grill. He also enjoyed watching sports especially Hockey and Football. He was happy just hanging out with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia; Daughters Lisa Shirey of Ogallala; Heather (Michael) Salmen of Omaha; Son Thomas Shirey of Lincoln; Sister Cindy (Charlie) Slack of Omaha; 3 Granddaughters: Blair Shirey, Delaney Gove, Tuesday Salmen, along with four nieces and a nephew.
For the memorial service please wear your favorite sports attire, Gordon loved to wear a hoodie or anything that had to do with his favorite sports teams.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church, Ogallala, NE, with Rev. Chuck Rager, officiating. The service will be live streamed at www.methodistchurchogallala.com, it will also be recorded and posted to drauckerfh.com.
