Jane Killion Obituary

Eleanor Ellajane (Moninger) Killion, age 94, of Chappell, Nebraska, passed away, Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg, CO.

Jane, as she was known throughout her life, was born August 26, 1926 in a sod house near Cozad, NE to John and Luella (Fales) Moninger. She was the 8th of 11 children.  Jane married Paul Killion on August 1, 1944 in Norton, KS.  They were married for 54 years before he passed away on January 10, 1999.

Jane spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked hard as a school secretary in Gothenburg, NE in order to attend school.  Early in her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator in North Platte, NE.  She was also a nurturer of the language arts, serving as a librarian for the Big Springs Public Library and as a news writer for the Big Springs section of The Chappell Register.   Even with her busy life, Jane still found the time to welcome anyone who dropped by to the food on her table.

Jane is remembered by her family for her resilience, vibrance, determination, and love for life.  As the family story-teller and entertainer, she used her vivid imagination to capture the hearts of all who would sit down to listen.  Jane was an accomplished cook, baker, and pickler, as well as an avid journaler.  She loved crosswords, bridge, tea parties, and mini bottles of Mountain Dew.  But above all, she loved to take care of and spend time with her family.  It is this selfless devotion that has made a lasting imprint on the lives of her future generations and for which she will be remembered for years to come.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Connie) Killion, of Fort Worth, TX; Phil (Jean) Killion, of Council Bluffs, IA; Patricia (Jerry) Powell, near Denton, NE; and Polly Olson, of Chappell, NE; sister Evelyn Olson, of Merna, NE; 11 grandchildren; and 23 (soon to be 24) great-grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; daughter Pamela; and her siblings.
