Jerry Joe Garcia, 79 of Ogallala, passed away on March 19,2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was born to Telesforo and Genevieve (Sawyer) Garcia on November 21, 1942 in Roscoe, Nebraska, he attended Roscoe and Ogallala public schools.

 Jerry enlisted in the Army on July 8, 1964 until his honorable discharge June 30, 1966 during his enlistment he served valiantly in the Vietnam war where he was awarded Expert Rifleman, Combat Infantryman’s badge, Vietnam service medal, National Defense service medal and the Bronze Star.

When Jerry returned home, he married Darlene Lay and they had two wonderful sons; Tom and Jeff. Jerry worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a Section Foreman until his retirement in 2006.

Jerry was a very avid Waterfowl hunter, his love of shooting was not just hunting, but also trap shooting, sporting clays, skeet and silhouettes, while he was shooting these 1000’s of rounds he also shared this love of shooting while spending endless time with his sons, grandsons and many friends.

He is survived by his wife Darlene Garcia, Sons Tom Garcia and Jeff (Sherri) Garcia; his sister Carlene (Matt) Whitlock;  his Grandsons Gavin and Garrett Garcia and his best friend and dog, Pepper and many Nieces and Nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Linda, Clofus, and Lois and brothers Richard, Dick and John.


Visitation will be Thursday March 24th at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, Nebraska from 9 am to 6 pm.


Funeral services with be Friday March 25th at 10 am at Draucker Funeral home Chapel in Ogallala, Ne with Pastor Matt Waitley of New Hope church officiating. Burial services will be in the Ogallala Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska with military honors by Keith County Veterans Honor Guard.


Jerry’s son Jeff would like to thank all Vet’s for their Service to our country.


A Memorial has been established in Jerry’s memory for the Ogallala High school Trap team.
