Melvin Chestnutt Obituary

 Melvin  Chestnutt, 92, of Ogallala, passed away on Monday,   May 24, 2021 at the Sutherland Care Center, Sutherland, NE.  
 
 He was born March 9, 1929 to Rueben A. and Mary A (Mitchell) Chestnutt at Glade, KS. He attended schools in Phillips County KS, graduating from Phillipsburg High School, in Phillipsburg, KS.

Melvin enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in the Infantry School Detachment.

On January 8, 1954 he married Marian Forell. To this union six children were born, Yvonne (Cindy), Rocklynn, Tamara, Eldon, Steve, and Brenda. 

Melvin worked on several ranches in the Nebraska Sandhills prior to moving to Ogallala. After moving to Ogallala, he worked for the Phillips 66 Pony Express Station, Armour Sand and Gravel, and as a custodian at the Ogallala Auditorium, retiring in 1994.
  
 Melvin is survived by four daughters, Yvonne L. Long (Mark), Martinsville, IL; Rocklynn E. Chappell, El Campo, TX; Tamara K. Haggard (Michael), Lincoln NE; Brenda L. (Mike) McGinty. One son, Eldon (Jane) Chestnutt of Emerson, NE. Also ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
 
 He was preceded in death by his wife Marian, son Steve, his parents, brothers Ivan, William, Bernard, Josiah, and sisters, Zelda Lindsey, Irma Chestnutt, and Lois Bowman, a daughter-in-law Sandra.
 
     
 Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021, 10:00 AM at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, in Ogallala, with Rev. Chuck Rager, of the United Methodist Church officiating.
 
 Interment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery .
 
 Memorials are suggested to: DAV Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 1431, Cincinnati, OH 45250-14301; Salvation Army; Kathleen Lute Public Library; or the charity of your choice.
