Norma Jean (Lyons) Simpson

On February 8, 2022, Norma Jean Simpson age 88 of Ogallala passed away at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, NE.

Norma was born September 19, 1933 to Carl and Zelda (Baxter) Lyons. She grew up in Arthur County and attended elementary and High School in Arthur, graduating with the class of 1951. During her high school years, she met the love of her life, Dean Simpson. They were married soon after her graduation. They made their home on the Simpson family ranch where they raised three children. Eventually, they moved to Lake McConaughy where they lived for more than forty years. She has resided in Ogallala for the past four years.

Norma was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking big family dinners and sharing time with her children and grandchildren as well as many friends. She was also a great gardener. The family was always assured of lots of fresh vegetables on the table. During the winter, there was always a cellar full of canned fruit and vegetables. She also loved to give away tomatoes, strawberries, and whatever she had an abundance of, to friends and neighbors.

Her love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did, but her love for the Lord was greater still. She so enjoyed reading her bible and sharing with others what she was reading.

Norma is survived by her son, Leroy Simpson and wife Becky of Paxton, daughter Eileen Williams and husband Lee of Sidney, grandson Michael Simpson and wife Jennifer of Cheyenne, WY; Shawna Queen of Loveland, CO and Stefanie and husband Cesar Juarez of Cheyenne, WY.  five great grandchildren, Owen Scripter, Paige Queen, Mya Juarez, Juliana Simpson, and Mason Juarez, sister-in-law Irene Simpson of North Platte, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Randy Simpson, and husband of 65 years, Dean Simpson.

Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2022 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM  in the Draucker Funeral Chapel, Ogallala, Nebraska. 

Services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Draucker Funeral Chapel, Ogallala, NE.
