Paul D. Crews, age 85, of Lake McConaughy passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Paul was born August 4, 1936, aboard a houseboat on the Black River in Jackson County, Ark., to Clifford and Lucy (Polston) Crews. As a young child the family moved to Rock Springs, Wyo., to work in the coal mines. The family returned to Arkansas where Paul attended Cord-Charlotte Public Schools when he graduated in 1955.
In October of that year, he joined the United States Air Force. Paul was stationed in Lincoln, Neb., where he met Mary Lou Comer. On June 14, 1959, they were married at the UCC First Congregational Church in Brule, Neb. He was also honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1959 and they made their home in Ogallala.
Paul began working for Goodall Electric and then transferred to TRW as a Quality Control Manager. He later went to work for Marshall Town in Oshkosh when he retired in 1998. Paul also worked for a short time building log homes including their home at Lake McConaughy.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of Lake McConaughy; daughter, Julie (Kim) Hothan of Ogallala; son, Craig (Wendy) Crews of Summerset, S.D.; brother, O'Neal Crews of Rolla, Mo.; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pearl Merriweather, brother-in-law, Tomy Merriweather; sister-in-law, Lou Crews and daughter-in-law, Melodee (Thompson) Crews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lisa Hadler of the UCC First Congregational Church officiating.
A memorial has been established to the Brule Fire Department.
Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery with Military Honors by the Keith County Veterans Honor Team.
