Charles Walker, 87, longtime Ogallala resident, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in his home.
Charles LeeRoy Walker was born Nov. 12, 1929 in Roscoe, the son of Ted and Ethel (Wakefield) Walker. He graduated from Ogallala High School in 1947.
Charles enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served until 1952. Charles was united in marriage to Eldree F. Robinette on May 17, 1953 in Ogallala where they started their family. They celebrated 64 years of marriage on May 17, 2017.
He worked at Goodall Electric and Brown Transfer. Then in 1963 he operated the Chevron Station and Bulk Plant until 1965. From there Charles was employed by TRW as a foreign plant coordinator until retiring in July 1994.
Charles was an active member of the First United Methodist Church since 1952. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1624 and served as Trustee for three years. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge #1760 and a past member of the Ogallala Optimist Club. Charles loved to watch almost any kind of sport and was an avid Husker fan. For many years he and Ree followed their children and grandchildren to various sporting events.
Charlie and Ree traveled south for several winters in their motor home and created wonderful memories along the way. Charlie will be remembered by his children for being 'handy' around the house. His hobbies included fishing, camping, and keeping his yard and garden in top notch appearance.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers James, Jesse, and Junior; and one sister Maxine Bomeke.
Survivors include his wife Eldree "Ree" of Ogallala; three sons: Mike (Leah) Walker of Rapid City, SD; Barry (Cindy) Walker of Big Springs; & Brad (Tobi) Walker of York; two daughters: Ronni (Jeff) Johnson of Rushville and Kelle (Steve) Brott of Chappell; one brother Carl (Charlene) Walker of Henderson, NV; two sisters: JoAnn Beckler of Grant and Charlotte Mullen of Lawton, OK; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family chose cremation. The memorial service will be Saturday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating.
Military rites by the Nebraska Military Funeral Honors Team will conclude the Service at the Church.
The Service will be live streamed for those unable to attend and may be seen from our site as well as by the visiting methodistchurchogallala.com.
Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church and to the Keith County Senior Center.
