My heart aches for your family with the passing of Jim. Mr. Jeffres was one of the first people we met after moving to Ogallala 17 years ago. He met us at the door of West 5th and helped us transition to our new town. What I respected the most about him was his willingness to listen. Even if he disagreed, he would listen and try to understand another person's perspective. He believed in the potential of each of our boys.
Even as a parent, I knew about his wife and children and knew how proud he was of each of you. You have been in my prayers.

It saddens my heart to read the passing of a great man that left a positive mark on my life. Mr. Jeffres was my principle throughout grade school. You always knew who was in charge but he was kind and always fair. He always took the time to talk to you in the halls, and you knew his door was always open. He will be greatly missed. We are so saddened and shocked about the news of Jim's death. It is such a great loss for your entire family. Jim was such a special person in the "elementary life" and times of our kids. In fact your whole family positively affected our lives. We will not be able to be at the funeral because Dianne and I are in Loveland at the Heart Center of the Rockies (angiogram for Dianne). We will be holding you all up in our prayers tomorrow and in the days and weeks ahead.

Barb and girls, we are so very sorry! Jim's mom and my dad were first cousins. My twin brother, Mark Peterson, played football with Jim at UNK. Those were wonderful years! Was really shocked and sadned to hear and read about Jim's untimely passing. Was glad I got to know him in HS and have half followed his life events through friends etc. Now am really glad went to his mom Mavis' burial and got to reconnect with him in person. One just never knows I guess and in some ways maybe that's best even though we'd all like to live to be a hundred and have our loved ones around forever. Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time of great sorrow. I have started writing a letter about some of the great actions I witnessed Jim helping others to grow and learn. He will continue to be an inspiration to others to do their best and care for others. A few of my favorites: his ability to be a great storyteller, especially in the late evenings at Camp, his kindness to others in time of sorrow (my Mom and brother this year), and his gift of writing complimenting others on their talents and guiding them to want to do their best! Jim's influence will never be able to be measured because it will continue on forever. I will always cherish his advice and the memories I have shared with him!

I only knew Jim for 2 years as elementary principal in Sterling. He was kind, efficient, smart and treated everyone fairly. He was a hardworking guy who mentored when you needed it but stayed out of the way and trusted you to do your job. I am so sorry for your loss. Men like Jim are rare. May god help to comfort your family.

Jim was my absolute favorite Principal going through school. He was a friendly person and had a kind heart. Ogallala was lucky to have such a wonderful educator and he will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family during this time.

I'm so shocked and saddened to hear this. I wanted to let you all know that when I look back on all my school years Mr Jeffres is definitely my favorite. I think that was a pretty common opinion. I've described him to others as I've gotten older and always with the most kind words like "gentle giant", "teddy bear of a man", and "just an ideal elementary principal." I'm truly glad that I was one of the many children who had the chance to be one of his pupils. My sincere condolences to the whole family.
