April 22, 2017. We just found out about Dick; so sorry, our hearts & prayers are with you. In 2014 we knocked on your door one evening after chatting with your neighbors below you. We were searching for family roots as my parents came from Nebraska. All we had was a bill of sale copy from a newspaper from 1934 as a description of where my father grew up on a cow ranch. As we found out after chatting with many folks, Dicks Dad bought the farm where my Dad and grandparents grew up and worked until he became ill. The farm is the one Dick and Leta lived on. The old schoolhouse where my Dad and his siblings went is a stones throw from the Lindauer Home. We were so appreciative to find our roots and had a lovely chat with Dick and Leta. Also, have a memory photo of them; both such sweet people. Thank you for helping two strangers from Oregon and chatting with us. Again, our prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Leta, Janean and Dana, I am so very sorry about the passing of Dick. He is remembered fondly as such a very kind human being. I enjoyed any moments spent with him over the years, as I am sure all who knew him did. It is so difficult as we age, in various different ways, if we are blessed to live into that era of life. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as your grieve in his loss. Sincerely, Gwen Merrill

I first met Dick and Leta as a young man in 1984, leaving my home and family in New Zealand behind for the first time. Dick and Leta welcomed me into their home and treated me as if I was one of the family. Living and working with Dick was truly a blessing and he taught me so much about life. He was hard working, patient and kind and there no words to describe how much respect, love and admiration I have for him. He was a great man and will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to Leta, Janean, Dana and family.

Dick and Leta were among my closest friends for over 50 years. Dick was simply one of the finest men I have ever known. I will miss his great humor and warmth. My deepest sympathies are with Leta, Janean, and Dana at this time.

I had the honor and privilege of knowing Dick from his many years of service on the Nebraska Cooperative Government Commission, for which I serve as General Counsel. As with many, if not most, such governmental organizations, often the discussions at meetings seem to turn into nothing more than 'white noise'. But when Dick spoke, which was not often, you knew it was best to listen carefully to what he said. All our lives were enhanced by knowing Dick, and are diminished with his passing. My condolences to his family, and take comfort in knowing that he truly was 'a good man'.
